Second seed Grigor Dimitrov is through to yet another Brisbane final and will battle top seed Holger Rune for the title. This is the first-ever meeting between the two in a tour final. Holger Rune defeated Dimitrov the first time they met, which was on grass at Wimbledon last July. The win should be very much fresh in his mind and should have him confident of winning here. Rune defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets to book this final. It was his second straight sets win in the tournament. Rune hasn’t dominated in tour finals as he would have liked and has won four titles in the eight finals he has contested. Last season he lost two of three finals. The current world number eight is set to play his first-ever final on hard court.

Grigor Dimitrov has played multiple finals on hard courts in his career and two have come in Brisbane. He won the title here in 2017. This tournament has an emotional connection with the Bulgarian as it was here 11 years ago that he earned his maiden tour final. He should therefore be eager to triumph again. Dimitrov defeated crowd favourite Jordan Thompson in straight sets to advance to the final. It was his third straight sets win and saw him relinquish eight games. He is now up one place to 13th in the live ranking after advancing to his second successive final. Dimitrov had a resurgence last season and contested two finals ending a five-year wait for such a feat. The eight-time tour champion defeated Rune the last time they met which was last October in Beijing.
