Fourteenth seed Diana Shnaider is back to the tour after her Olympics debut. She will play Harriet Dart in the first round at the Canadian Open. Ahead of the match, let’s have a look at the stats and our prediction.

Harriet Dart lost her last qualifying round match in Toronto after being forced to retire with injury. The Briton had won the first set against Louisa Chirico but was forced to abandon the match in the second set.

Dart needed a wheelchair to leave the court but the injury seems to not have been that serious. This is the 28-year-old’s second appearance in the main draw at this WTA 1000 event. She progressed to the second round on her debut in 2021. Dart, who has compiled a shaky 22-21 record has moved up four places to 74th in the live ranking.

On the other hand, Diana Shnaider is having a superb season. The young Russian has won 37 times in 52 outings. This has resulted in three tour titles as well as one in the challenger circuit.

The 20-year-old, who is debuting in Toronto, had her first taste of the Olympics at Paris 2024. Her Singles campaign was short-lived but in the Doubles category, she secured a podium finish. Together with partner Mirra Andreeva, Shnaider won silver.

Shnaider’s performances have catapulted her to the verge of breaking into the WTA Top 20. She is currently placed 24th in the world. Before heading to Paris for the Olympics, Shnaider had won the title in Budapest. The winner here will advance to play Anastasia Potapova or Magda Frech next.
