Boland Cavaliers wouldn't have hoped for a better start in the South African top flight after their eight-year absence following their impressive performance in the opening match. The Wellington-based outfit opened their Currie Cup campaign with a hard-fought 37-35 over five-time champions Free State Cheetahs. Donavan Don's match-winning try swung the game in the hosts' favor at the death to seal victory.

Hawies Fourie's side will aim to maintain this winning start on Sunday. However, they have not been lucky against Griquas and will be looking for their first win in five attempts against the Kimberley-based side.

Suzuki Griquas suffered a heavy defeat against Pumas in their Currie Cup opening fixture. They lost both halves against the Pumas to settle for a 49-28 defeat in Mbombela. This result ended a run of two straight wins for the team dating back to last season.

However, they have won three of their last five Currie Cup matches, including two consecutive victories at home. Pieter Bergh's side will aim to return to winning ways when they host Boland Cavaliers on Sunday.
