Third seed Alexander Bublik and the unseeded Gregoire Barrere will rekindle their rivalry on Wednesday at the European Open. The two will meet in the second round with the winner advancing to play either David Goffin or Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Gregoire Barrere has won two of the five meetings between him and Bublik. One of those victories came back in February on indoor hard court in Montpellier. He will therefore fancy his chances of tying this series. Barrere defeated Daniel Galan in straight sets to mark his return to Antwerp after four years. The Frenchman, ranked 70th in the live ranking, has compiled a 33-28 record. He has won 15 of the 20 matches he has contested on indoor hard courts resulting in one challenger title.

Alexander Bublik has struggled with his form all through 2023. He has compiled a 22-27 record and arrives for this match having lost his last two fixtures. On indoor hard courts, he has also lost more than he has won in seven outings. However, one of his wins on the surface was against Barrere and this should have him confident of getting back to winning ways. Bublik defeated Barerre the last time they met, which was also in February but in Marseille. All three of the Kazakhs’ victories in this series have come on indoor hard courts. Bublik is ranked 36th in the ATP and is making his Antwerp debut.
