Currie Cup round six action gets underway at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon when the Golden Lions take on the Pumas. The hosts are currently in third place in the overall standings, while the visitors are fourth. Let’s get into the match prediction. 

The Lions have been significantly improved this season, currently holding a knockout-round qualification spot after finishing third-bottom last term. 

They enter round six of the competition with an impressive record of four wins and just one loss, while they’ve also picked up two bonus points for tries scored. That leaves them on 18 points, three off current leaders the Blue Bulls. 

Last week, the Lions secured a 36-28 win on the road to Griquas and will be confident here, having demolished their upcoming opponents 75-21 last month in Nelspruit. 

Meanwhile, the Pumas have not been at their absolute best in this year’s competition but they are still in a qualification spot, also on 18 points, though they have earned four bonus points. 

The Pumas played host to the Sharks last weekend and it turned out to be an incredible battle as the sides could not be separated in regulation time and ended up drawing 44-44. That gives the side from Nelspruit a record of three wins, one draw and one loss. 

Last season’s runners-up have only played two away games so far this season and won both, but can they avenge the heavy loss they suffered the last time these sides met in this one?
