Giro - Stage 5 Predictions & Betting tips - Giro d'Italia
by Matthew Newman |
Stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia is flat for the vast majority but late on there are some climbs in the last 30km. Only one of them is an official Cat Four but there are some short and sharp rises to consider ahead of making our prediction.
As has already been the case multiple times already at the Giro, in any sprint finish which involves any sort of uphill drag, the main man is Mads Pedersen. This is once more his type of finish and that means he is the main contender here.
It will be interesting to see just how hard the unranked climbs are late for the pure sprinters. Olav Kooij is the best of those but he does not enjoy the hills. If he makes it up them, he has to be a player despite a shock defeat in Stage 4.
Both Wout van Aert and Corbin Strong have finished runner-up to Mads Pedersen in a stage already. Van Aert will be hoping for the small climbs dropping the pure sprinters while Strong is one of those genuine sprint types.
Third in Stage 1 and Stage 3 was Orluis Aular. The Movistar team are set up more with the climbers in mind than trying to win sprint stages so it's to his credit he has been so competitive.
