Stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia will see three categorised climbs along the way, including a Cat 1 halfway through which has sections as hard as 19% before a Cat 2 climb within the last 11 km. It is a fascinating stage in prospect so let's dig into a prediction.

As with Stage 8 of the Giro, this looks like a stage that is tailor-made for the escape artists. The final climb of the day is not hard enough for the general classification contenders to make up time.

Lorenzo Fortunato was part of the break on Stage 8 and currently leads the King of the Mountains classification. He will want to get in the break once more to maximise his returns on the Cat 1 climb.

At the Vuelta last year, Max Poole put himself on everyone's radar. He was part of five breakaways, finishing on the podium on four of those stages so he and his team know when to send him. He has kept the powder dry so far and is far enough back in the GC for the big boys to let him go.

This is the final Grand Tour for Romain Bardet. He was part of the Stage 8 breakaway and looks liable to try and get himself in as many as he can in the hope of one final stage win.

Stage 11 will cover 186km with a huge Cat 1 climb in the middle of the stage which will split the climbers from the rest of the peloton.
Max Poole finished second on a Vuelta stage last year and then was third in three more!

As with Stage 8, it is always very hard to predict who will try and make the breakaway group. We picked one out that did on that day but it was his teammate who went up the road and eventually took the stage win. Max Poole had a poor day on Stage 9 but that can play to his advantage. Team Picnic Postal will likely send Romain Bardet up the road but don't be surprised if Max Poole sneaks over with him and can utilise his experienced teammate to good effect.
