Gael Monfils is the fourth seed for this tournament and ranked 14th in the world. He has made it to the semi-finals without having to play a seeded opponent. The first round saw him have a bit of trouble when losing the first set to Dennis Novak 6-2 before recovering to win the next two sets. Since then, he’s had straight sets victories over Jannik Sinner (who he lost to in Antwerp last week) and Aljaz Bedene. Monfils could do with winning this tournament and going deep in Paris next week as he bids to qualify for the ATP Tour Finals. This is his best performance since reaching the last four of the Rogers Cup where he had to pull out of his game against Rafael Nadal due to injury. February saw him win a hard court tournament in Rotterdam so he will hope to recapture that form.

Diego Schwartzmann is the fifth seed for this tournament. He’s made it to this semi-final for the loss of only one set. That was lost in the second round as he came from a set down to get past Sam Querrey avenging his recent loss to him in China. The quarter finals saw him defeat second seed Karen Khachanov in straight sets. If he can repeat that kind of form in this semi-final then he has a great chance of reaching the final, back him to win this match.
