Francisco Cerundolo’s fourth meeting with Alexander Shevchenko will happen at the BMW Open on Thursday. These two meet in the second round, battling for a place in the quarter-final, where David Goffin or Mariano Navone await. Read on for our prediction of the match.
Cerundolo is making his second appearance in Munich and returns a better player after his exit in qualifiers in 2022. A straight-set win against defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round marked his first ever win at the BMW Open.
Now he has a 1-1 record at Munich but 18-8 for the season, which includes 10 wins in 14 clay court matches. He will surely be the favorite against Shevchenko.
Shevchenko is coming into this match on a not-so-inspiring run of form. The Kazakhstani is on a losing record, having so far compiled an 8-14 record for the season.
Like Cerundolo, he is also making his second appearance at this ATP event. His debut was in 2024, and he was dumped out in the opening round by Yannick Hanfmann.
Having seen off Flavio Cobolli in the last round, Shevchenko has now reached a 1-1 run at this tournament. His six losses in the last nine matches present him as the underdog going into the first ever clay match against Cerundolo.
