Frances Tiafoe, competing at the US Open as the 17th seed, will take on the qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round. Frances Tiafoe is coming off his toughest showdown yet this week. The American needed three hours to overcome the challenge of qualifier and compatriot Martin Damm in four sets.

He had began his 11th consecutive appearance at Flushing Meadows with a straight-sets victory over Yoshihito Nishioka. Tiafoe, who is defending 800 points, has fallen 12 places in the live ranking to 29th.

This is after he lost 700 points. The 27-year-old has made the semi-finals twice in the last three seasons.

Jan-Lennard Struff is having one of his best campaigns in New York and is now one win from setting a new personal record. The German has never progressed past the second round here.

However, with his most recent victory against 11th seed Holger Rune, he will be confident of another big result. Struff, who is on a five-match winning streak, defeated Rune in five sets. The 35-year-old, who has compiled a disappointing 16-22 record, won via a decider against Tiafoe at the 2020 French Open.
