France and Portugal meet on Sunday afternoon in the bronze medal match of the 2025 Men's World Handball Championships. Both teams have to get over the disappointment of their semi-final defeats. Who'll win the bronze? Read our match prediction.
It's been another successful tournament for France who have now finished in the top four in six successive world championships. They won the Euros at the start of last year but have been unable to build on that success. Only the quarter-finals were reached at the 2024 Paris Olympics and now they have missed out on the world final after being runners-up to Denmark two years ago.
Portugal have been the surprise team iin these championships. They had never previously made it past the Main Round before but now have the chance to return home with the bronze medal. They were soundly beaten in their semi-final, can they bounce back from the loss to Denmark?

France - Portugal: Form Analysis
France had gone 11 games unbeaten until they lost to Croatia in the semi-finals. That was a hugely disappointing defeat for the current European champions. They trailed by seven goals at half-time in that match and although they narrowed the gap in the second half, still lost by three goals.
Before that loss, France had won Preliminary Round Group C with three convincing wins. Main Round Group II was also won and they then narrowly beat Egypt in the last eight before losing to Croatia.
Portugal bid to cause another surprise.
Portugal had two notable wins in their Preliminary Round group. They beat both Norway and Brazil as well as the USA. Their 100 per cent record ended when drawing with Sweden in the Main Round but still won the group thanks to wins over Spain and Chile.
In the quarter-finals, they beat Germany after extra time. Their bid to reach the final ended in defeat to world champions Denmark, losing by a 13-goal margin. These two sides met last year and France won by a six-goal margin.

Neither side have reported injury problems ahead of this game.
France will be looking for more goals to be scored by Dika Mem. He's scored 50 goals so far in ths tournament and that makes him the second highest scorer behind Denmark's Mathias Gidsel.

Portgual will be hoping that Francisco Costa wiill continue his good form in these championships He's the joint third-highest scorer with 46 goals.
