Round 11 of the 2024 Formula 1 season heads to the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend! Red Bull’s Max Verstappen currently leads the 2024 Driver standings with 227 points. Lando Norris moved up to second place last week and is now on 156 points, while Charles Leclerc is in third with 150 points. 

The 2024 Austrian Grand Prix will feature the same front row as we saw last week in Barcelona, albeit that Max Verstappen will start from pole position this time. The Dutchman was the driver to beat throughout qualifying and clinched pole with a time of 1:04.314 in Q3, 0.404s ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris. This result marks Verstappen's fourth consecutive pole position at the Austrian GP. Oscar Piastri originally claimed third place but lost his position after the FIA deemed he had broken track limits in his final run. McLaren did protest the decision, but to no avail, and the Australian will now have to start the Austrian GP from seventh. The second row will therefore feature Mercedes’ George Russell and and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. 

Seven-time F1 driver champion Lewis Hamilton did enough to secure fifth only marginally ahead of Charles Leclerc, who had a relatively disappointing qualifying session, all things considered. It was another disappointing qualifying for Red Bull’s number two Sergio Perez, who will start from eighth and the Mexican’s time of 1:05.202 suggests that he may find it difficult to move up the grid on Sunday. Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten at +1.071 and +1.569 respectively. Lance Stroll, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu all exited in Q1 and will start in 17th, 19th and 20th.
