Facundo Diaz Acosta and Zizou Bergs will meet in a battle of unseeded players in the first round of the 2024 European Open. In this article, we highlight stats leading up to the Tuesday match then offer our prediction.

This will be Diaz Acosta’s first match on an indoor hard court. He will hope for an impressive debut, to ease his recent struggles. The Argentine has dipped in form in recent weeks and in his last six matches, managed just one win.

This has affected his ATP ranking and he is starting a new week having dropped eight places to 67th. Though he is having an inconsistent season, the 23-year-old has managed some spectacular moments thus far.

Two things however are working in his favour coming into this match. One is he is playing on home soil, the second is his experience on indoor hard courts.

Bergs has won over 80 matches on this surface and claimed multiple challenger titles. That, coupled with Diaz Acosta’s inexperience on indoor hard courts will have him confident of a win.

Bergs, who starts the week ranked 70th in the ATP, a new career high, has won 41 matches in 2024. The winner of this first career meeting will play Sebastian Baez for a place in the quarter-finals.
