Equatorial Guinea - Guinea-Bissau: Form Analysis

Equatorial Guinea had a positive start to the competition as they drew 1-1 with favourites Nigeria on matchday one. They will now seek a win here as they next face off with the hosts Ivory Coast in their final group match. The draw with Nigeria extended their unbeaten streak to 11 matches. This run, which has seen them win five times, began with a 0-0 draw with Rwanda in a build-up game in 2022. The Elephants are in their fourth appearance at the continental stage and have never failed to advance from the group stages. In 2015, Eq. Guinea finished fourth to record their best-ever finish at an AFCON.

Guinea Bissau began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to hosts Ivory Coast. It was the first match of the tournament and for large spells of the game held their own. Now that they don’t have the pressure of playing a host nation, Baciro Cande’s men will be confident of winning here. The Djurtus have won both meetings with Eq. Guinea with the more recent one being a 3-0 success in 2022. Both matches were friendly encounters, however. Guinea Bissau are back on the continental stage for the fourth successive tournament. They made their AFCON debut in 2017 in Gabon and since then have never missed out. The West African nation however has never managed to win a match nor progress from the group stage. They have lost seven of the 10 games they have played at this stage.

Equatorial Guinea & Guinea-Bissau Squad Analysis

Iban Salvador broke the deadlock for Eq. Guinea against Nigeria and has now scored six goals for his country. The midfielder is one of the most capped players for his country at the tournament. Captain Emilio Nsue is also another experienced player in this side and has scored 17 times in 40 appearances. He should again be expected to lead the line here.

Guinea Bissau need to start scoring if they are to enhance their chances of avoiding another early exit. Mama Balde led the line against Ivory Coast but was withdrawn late with what hopefully should be cramp and nothing more. The Lyon striker has scored three goals in 21 appearances for Djurtus. Zinho Gano did not play in the first match but he is the leading scorer in the current setup. He has scored four goals in five appearances.
