The winner of this second-round tie will play either third-seed Maria Sakkari or the qualifier Camila Osorio next. Emma Navarro has won all her three rounds in this tournament without dropping a set. This has been the perfect response to losing three on the trot before she arrived to make her second appearance here. The American will now aim to avenge her loss to Sasnovich in Cleveland last month. Navarro is having a strong campaign and has compiled a 48-20 record, winning three ITF titles with one on hard court. The win allowed her to get back into the top 100, catapulting her 14 places to 88th in the live ranking. Sasnovich is playing in the main draw in San Diego for the first time.
