Qualifier Emiliana Arango has reached the last eight of the outdoor hard court Merida Open. In the quarter-final, the Colombian faces unseeded Rebecca Sramkova. Who'll reach the last four? Here's our match prediction.
Arango was ranked 128th in the last ranking list so that meant two qualifiers had to be won to reach the main draw. In the second qualifying round the 24-year-old defeated Maria Lourdes Carle but needed three sets.
Carle was reinstated as a lucky loser and the pair met again in round one. This time Arango won in straight sets to set up a second round match against Francesca Jones. Arango was 4-3 down in the final set when Jones retired.
Rebecca Sramkova is up to a career-high 37th in the live rankings. The 28-year-old has reached her first quarter-final of the year. Last November saw her be a losing finalist in Jiujiang, one of three WTA Tour finals she reached last year, winning one and all on hard courts.
This week has seen Sramkova beat Lulu Sun for the loss of only four games. That set her up with a second round match against third seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and that was won in straight sets.
