Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Yulia Putintseva, both unseeded, will face off in the semi-finals of the 2024 Birmingham Classic. The winner will then face Anastasia Potapova, Leylah Fernandez or Ajla Tomljanovic in the championship match. Elisabetta Cocciaretto is having her best campaign at a tour event on grass. The Italian, who debuted on grass two seasons ago, has won all three matches she has played on the surface this year. After two straight-set wins to begin her campaign in Birmingham, Cocciaretto needed a decider to progress from her quarter-final tie. This was against Diana Shnaider whom she mounted a comeback against after losing the first set. The 23-year-old has now compiled a 23-15 record and is up three places to 41st in the live ranking.

Yulia Putintseva is also coming off a three set battle in the quarter-finals. The Kazakh battled against lucky loser Caroline Dolehide. The win allowed her to progress to the last four for the first time in what is her fifth appearance in Birmingham. She has now improved her record to 25-15 and is unbeaten on grass. One of Putintseva’s wins this year came against Cocciaretto. This was in the first round in Hobart back in January. It was the first time they had squared off and the 29-year-old, who is much more experienced on grass, is favourite here. Putintseva is seeking to end a three year wait for a tour title. She is currently ranked 40th in the live ranking.
