History will be made in the women's singles final at Wimbledon. We see Tunisian Ons Jabeur taking on Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. Neither country have had a finalist in a Grand Slam though there is a bit of irony here. After all the fuss over the banning of players from Russia and Belarus, we have a Russian born player in the final. Elena Rybakina is the 17th seed and had only reached one Grand Slam quarter final before this tournament. Last year did see her get to the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament but lost that and the play-off for the Bronze Medal. This is only her second time in the main draw at Wimbledon. Evidence of her ability on this surface was shown when reaching the fourth round. This time around it's gone even better and she was impressive when beating Simona Halep in straight sets in her semi-final. Only one set has been dropped so far and that was the opening one in her quarter final against Ajla Tomljanovic. Halep is the only seed that Rybakina has played on her way to this final.

There have been three previous meetings between this pair and Jabeur leads 2-1. Rybakina won their first clash in Wuhan three years ago. The other two matches tookplace last year with Jabeur winning in Dubai and then the Chicago semi-final when Rybakina retired a set and 3-2 down in the second. It's been a highly successful year for Jabeur who began 2022 in tenth place and has risen to second (though seeded third here). Two titles have been won with success in Madrid on clay and then the German Open on grass. Jabeur has also reached two other finals and this run at Wimbledon makes up for her surprising first round loss in the French Open. Jabeur has gone 11 matches unbeaten since that defeat. Only two sets have been dropped in this tojurnament, one to Marie Bouzkova in the last eight and then the second set in her win over Tatyana Maria in the semi-finals. Jabeur has more experience of finals than her opponent and looks determined to land her first ever Grand Slam title. Back her to win this match.
