Great Britain are favourites to win the Davis Cup but it looks as if they’ll have to come from behind if they want that first win since 1936. Kyle Edmund kicks off the tie as he makes his Davis Cup debut and the world number 100 is really up against it as he takes on Belgium’s David Goffin who is ranked 16. Edmund usually plays on the ATP Challenger circuit which is a step below the main tour. He’s in form though with a recent tournament win in Argentina but the highest ranked opponent he beat was 127. He failed to qualify for the US Open and was beaten in the first round at Wimbledon after receiving a wild card. He did reach the second round on clay at the Paris Open (this game will be played on clay) but did only beat a player ranked 558 in the first round and hasn’t beaten anyone ranked In the top 100 this year. That means Goffin really should have few problems getting the win here. He has taken sets off Djokovic, Federer and Wawrinka this year so playing Edmund on clay should see a straight sets win before the Murray clan comes to the rescue later in the tie.
