Du Plessis walks in off the first loss of his UFC run, a one-sided decision defeat to Khamzat Chimaev last August that cost him the belt and snapped an 11-fight winning streak. That was the grappling nightmare though, and Usman is a very different, much older assignment. Before Chimaev, Stillknocks had beaten Strickland twice, Adesanya, and Whittaker, so the pedigree is not in question.
Usman is the interesting one. He is 39 now, moving up to 185 for only the second time, and he last fought back in June 2025, edging Joaquin Buckley over five rounds at welterweight to snap a three-fight skid. That was a solid night, but it was a lighter man and a full year ago. The Nigerian Nightmare has not won two in a row since 2021.
Toss in the seven-year age gap and the size, and this is a rough spot for the returning welterweight.
