Ninth seed Casper Ruud faces the wildcard, Dominic Stricker, in the opening round of the Swiss Indoor ATP event. This is their second matchup in Basel and their third overall career meeting. Their previous indoor meeting needed a decider, and our prediction backs the same.
Stricker defeated Ruud when they met in Basel three seasons ago. In what was their first-ever meeting, the Swiss star won in three sets on his way to the quarter-finals. That 2023 performance remains his best-ever showing in this event.
Stricker has competed almost entirely this season outside the tour and has managed 41 wins and three titles. He will start this week ranked outside the ATP’s top 250.
Casper Ruud won his most recent meeting with Stricker. That was last year, and although it was on a clay surface, he is the favourite to replicate that performance here.
Ruud is an indoor specialist who last season reached the Basel quarter-finals. Starting the week in 25th spot in the live ranking, Ruud is coming off a strong performance in Shanghai.
