Seventh seed Daria Kasatkia and the unseeded Sorana Cirstea will meet again, at the Abu Dhabi Open. They will battle in the quarterfinals with the winner playing either Beatriz Haddad Maia or Ons Jabeur for a place in the final. Daria Kasatkina defeated the qualifier Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets in the last round. This was her seventh win of the season in 10 outings. The Russian is having a promising start to the year and has already played one final. This was in Adelaide. Kasatkina has now made at least the quarterfinals in three of the four tournaments she has participated in this season. The current number 14 defeated Cirstea the first time they met, this however was on clay six years ago.

Sorana Cirstea has also defeated Kasatkina before. The Romanian won on clay the last time they met which was more recently in 2021. As she is slowly gathering steam after a poor start to the year, Cirstea will be confident of a win here. The 33-year-old also won her last match in straight sets, dominantly defeating third seed Maria Sakkari by the loss of three games. This was only her second victory of the year. Before arriving in Abu Dhabi, Cirstea had lost the first three matches she had contested this season. She is currently ranked 26th in the live ranking.
