Second seed Elena Rybakina will face the unseeded Daria Kasatkina as she begins her campaign for a first Canadian Open title. The two will square off in the second round, marking their sixth career meeting. Rybakina has the head-to-head advantage over Kasatkina, and our prediction backs her to win.

Kasatkina is coming off an intense opening-round tie. To start her week, she was paired up against Wang Xinyu, whom she defeated in three sets after clawing her way from 1-0 down.

The Russian has now won five times in her last seven outings, improving to 20-15. She, however, has dropped to 63rd in the live ranking. Kasatkina, who has won twice previously against Rybakina, has never won a second round tie at the Canadian Open.

Elena Rybakina makes her return to action after a month-long break. The world number two hasn’t taken to the court since a disappointing third-round exit at Wimbledon.

In her most recent appearances, Rybakina has been devoid of the form that saw her start the year with just one loss from her opening 12 matches. A winner of two titles, including the Australian Open, Rybakina has lost five times in her last nine outings.

The 27-year-old, who has won the last two meetings with Kasatkina, has compiled a 34-11 record. Rybakina lost in the second round in her only other appearance in Canada, four years ago.
