Top seed Danill Medvedev takes on 11th seeded Taylor Fritiz in the Cincinnati Masters quarter finals. Medvedev has already had one bit of good news this week. Reaching the quarter finals has ensured he'll remain the world number one and be top seed at the US Open. Medvedev hasn't always played like a world number one this year with 11 losses. He's only won one title in 2022 and is fifth in the ATP Race. His one title came at the start of this month when beating Cameron Norrie to win the title in Los Cabos. He ddn't beat any top 10 ranked players to win that title and in Montreal last week lost to Nick Kyrgios. His form has been better this week as he completes his preparations for the defense of his US Open title. Wins have come against Botic van de Zandschlup and Denis Shapovalov without losing a set.

Taylor Fritz is the world number 13 but up to 12th in the live rankings. A win over Medvedev will take him up to 11th and into the top 10 if Cameron Norrie loses to Ben Shelton. The American has had a successful year with victory at Indian Wells and on grass at Eastbourne. He's 10th in the ATP Race, so in with a decent chance of making it into the Tour Finals. Fritz also reached the last eight at Wimbledon but has lost in the last 16 of the two tournaments he's played since that Grand Slam. In Cincinnati, he's had wins over Sebastian Baez (losing just two games), Nick Kyrgios (just five games lost) and then eighth seed Andrey Rublev after losing a first set tie-break. This is going to be even tougher and the tip is for Medvedev to win and set up a possible semi-final with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
