World number 13 Daniil Medvedev makes his 2026 debut in Brisbane and will face unseeded Marton Fucsovics in the first round. The two have matched up six times previously, with Medvedev winning all but one of those duels. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Daniil Medvedev is back in Brisbane after a seven-year hiatus and starts his campaign as the top seed. The Russian made it to the final in his only campaign here and will hope for at least a similar run to have the right start to the season.

Medvedev had a slow campaign in 2025 by his standards despite winning 41 matches. He won just one title and failed to move past the second round at any of the four majors, losing in the first round three times.

Dropping out of the ATP top 10 for only the second time in five years, Medvedev would finish the campaign outside the top 10 for the first time since 2018.

Marton Fucsovics ended his season in October after a second-round exit in Stockholm and hasn’t played since. The Hungarian won 41 matches in 2025 but suffered more losses in his final 10 fixtures of the campaign.

Alternating between the Challenger and tour circuits, Fucsovics was crowned champion at the Salem Open and at the Manama Challenger.

The 33-year-old, who is ranked 55th in the ATP, earned his only victory over Medvedev in the opening round at Roland Garros in 2020.
