Daniel Altmaier will have his sights set on securing an all-German second round match in the Miami Open. If he can beat qualifier Harold Mayot, he'll take on the 24th seeded Jan-Lennard Struff in round two of this outdoor hard court tournament. Altmaier is currently ranked 54th, seven places below the career high he set last year. The German is hoping to end a run of two straight losses. He was beaten by Miomir Kecmanovic in Acapulco and then Lucas Pouille in the Indian Wells first round. It's not all bad news though because before being beaten by Kecmanovic, he beat world number four Alexander Zverev. He's reached one outdoor hard court tournament this year, that was in Auckland two months ago. He had a good win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in that tournament but had to retire against Arthur Fils.

Harold Mayot is down at 141st in the latest rankings. That meant he had to qualify to get into the main draw of this Masters event. The first of his qualifiers was a highly dramatic affair. He was a set all and 1-2 when his opponent Arthur Cazaux (seeded third) fainted and was unable to carry on. Mayot then beat David Goffin in straight sets to get into round one. He's up to 128th in the live rankings and that's a new career high. The Frenchman has spent most of his year on the Challenger Tour with two semi-finals reached. On the ATP Tour he did get to the last eight in Montpellier but didn't beat anyone ranked in the top 100. We go for Altmaier to win this match.
