Thursday morning will see the 41-19-9 Dallas Stars hosting the 28-35-5 Arizona Coyotes. This is game four of a five-game home stand for the Stars, losing the first two before beating the Los Angeles Kings last time out. A loss to the Florida Panthers ended a five-game win streak but there is no disgrace in that, though a 2-6 defeat by the New Jersey Devils was a disappointment. The Stars are one of three teams with 91 points in the Central Division in what is going to be the most dramatic race down the stretch. Craig Smith has had a tough season for the Stars but he has goals in back-to-back games to take him to nine on the season. He had five seasons of 20+ in a six-year span when he was a Predator and adds another string to the powerful offensive bow that the Stars possess.
The Coyotes have seven home games after this quick one on the road in Texas. They got the better of the New Jersey Devils last time out which is something that the Stars will have hoped to do. After 14 straight losses, the Yotes have at least put up some wins of late, 5-4 in their last nine. They have struggled on the penalty kill this month, just 65.3% which is the second worst in the league. On the other side of special teams, their power play is scoring at a 28% clip which is in the top 10 in March. Liam O'Brien leads the team in penalty minutes with 133. It's his third season in Arizona, into three figures in penalty minutes in all of them. The team have taken 307 penalties, the third most in the league which could be an issue against a solid power play team.
