Iva Jovic looks to be going all the way in her Guadalajara title defence. In the semi-finals, she is scheduled to take on Cristina Bucsa. The two are the highest remaining seeded players at the tournament, and this will be their first-ever meeting. Jovic has never lost a match in Guadalajara, and our prediction backs her to prevail again.

This will be the second time Jovic plays in the semis at this event. She hasn’t dropped a set here yet, beating Zeynep Sonmez and, most recently, Magdalena Frech.

The American is on a 35-19 record, with 21 of her wins having been on hardcourts. In the live ranking, she is 16th.

Sixth seed Bucsa is coming straight from eliminating the third seed Sara Bejlek, and will be training her guns on the defending champion. She did it in straight sets and hasn’t dropped a set here yet.

This will be a key battle, with both players having enjoyed some time off after getting first-round byes. Now Bucsa, still on the search for a first WTA tour-level title, will feel she can go all the way here.

There is a small problem though; her record against top 20 players is so poor, it stands at 4-20 for the season. Bucsa is placed 30th in the live ranking.
