Flavio Cobolli will take on lucky loser Alexander Shevchenko in the first round of the BMW Open. This match will mark their second meeting, with the winner facing Jan-Lennard Struff or Francisco Cerundolo next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Cobolli’s good run was halted last time out as he fell in straight sets to Arthur Fils. That was in the Monte Carlo Masters second round, extinguishing the fire they had carried over from winning the Bucharest title.

It was also only his third defeat in the last 10 matches, and the Italian will hope to start another successful run.

The only meeting between these two players was in Geneva last year. Shevchenko came out second best, losing 2-0. Now the Kazakhstani will be out to ensure he doesn’t fall two behind in this head-to-head.

Shevchenko, who is still in the hunt for a first tour title, walks into this game on a losing run, having compiled a 7-14 record. In his most recent match, Shevchenko lost in straight sets to Borna Gojo in the Munich qualifiers.

He, however, got a second chance as a lucky loser and will be looking to grab it with both hands. Shevchenko is making his second appearance at this competition. On his debut last year, he lost in the first round.
