Christian Garin is the third seed for this tournament. The world number 31 bids for a place in the final when taking on the unseeded Andrej Martin who is ranked 100 in the world. Garin has had to win two matches to get to the last four. He only dropped three games when beating Attila Balazs but then had problems in his quarter final. Garin lost the first set to sixth seeded Pablo Cuevas 6-1 but bounced back to win the next two sets for the loss of seven games Garin has had a tough start to the new year. He lost all three of his games in the ATP Cup, two against players in the top ten. He then lost in round two of the Australian Open to Milos Raonic. His best performances last year were winning clay tournaments in Houston and Munich. He also made it to the quarter finals of the Paris Masters.

Andrej Martin is unseeded and having one of his best runs for a while. He has beaten Frederico Coria, Carlos Taberner and Corentin Moutet to reach the last four, this match against Garin is by far his toughest match of the week. Martin won three clay tournaments last year, two of them in Khazakhstan but not against the top level of players as he mainly plays on the Challenger tour. Garin looks in the better form and can get the win here.
