The first semi-final of the 2023-24 Nedbank Cup will see Chippa United taking on Orlando Pirates at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The winner of this match will move on to face either Stellenbosch or Mamelodi Sundowns in the grand final on June 1 at the Mbombela Stadium. Chippa’s journey to the final four in this competition began with a 2-1 win over NC Pro’s followed by a 2-1 win against Ravens, though they needed extra time in order to find the winner in that match. Last round, they overcame TS Galaxy on the road, courtesy of goals by Bienvenu Eva Nga and Roscoe Pietersen in either half. In league terms, the Chilli Boys are in tenth place with 32 points after 26 games, 14 points behind their opponents in this match. Over their last ten home games in all competitions, the hosts have a record of five wins, three draws, and just two losses. These two played to a 1-1 draw in the league earlier this season. 

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates come into this match as arguably the most in-form side in the PSL at the moment. They secured a 2-0 win over Cape Town City in midweek, which extended their current win streak to five matches and six games unbeaten in all competitions. In addition, they have scored an impressive 18 goals in their last five games, including two or more in four of those matches. In this season’s Nedbank Cup, the Buccaneers trounced lower division opponents Crystal Lake and Hungry Lions 6-0 and 4-0, respectively, before outplaying Amazulu 4-2 in the quarter-final. On the road, Pirates are on a three-match winning streak and are unbeaten in their last four, dating back to the end of March. Owing to their excellent recent form, the visitors enter this contest as the marginal favourites.
