Seven years have elapsed since the last meeting between Chelsea and Barcelona. The two are set to renew one of the most intense of rivalries when they clash at Stamford Bridge this Tuesday. This will be a round five encounter, and we have a prediction for the match below.
This will be the second time in the teams’ history that they clash in a league/group stage match. The first ended in a 3-2 aggregate win for Chelsea back in 2006/07. Heading into this game, 12th placed Chelsea will be looking to rise into the top eight with a win.

For the first time since 2022/23, Chelsea are taking part in the Champions League. Last season they won the Conference League and went on to clinch the Club World Cup.
They have the pedigree, and featuring in their 20th UCL campaign, they will feel they have what it takes to stand up to Barcelona. Against Spanish teams, they’ve lost just two of 16 league stage meetings, winning seven.

Barcelona are coming off a resounding 4-0 win against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. It was a rare occasion when the visitors recorded a clean sheet, and they’ll hope for another strong outing here.
This will be a completely different game. Having scored at least three in their last four matches, though, Barca will be confident of carrying their scoring boots.

Chelsea will once again be without a key cog in their attack, Cole Palmer. The English forward is nursing a toe injury, which has kept him out since September. He is still a few weeks away from returning to action and won’t get the chance to add to his one goal in the Champions League this season.
He only played once in Europe this term, scoring the Blues’ only goal in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich. For a player with 45 goals in his 1-1 appearances for Chelsea, his absence is a big blow.
In Palmer’s absence, a number of attacking options are available for Enzo Maresca. Key among them is Joao Pedro, who has seven goal contributions. The Brazilian will, however, be chasing a first Champions League goal here.
Robert Lewandowski has three goals and four assists against Chelsea.
The most surprising stat in the Barcelona team is that this season, Robert Lewandowski hasn’t scored in the Champions League. Well, the Pole has spent considerable time out injured, only playing 120 minutes in the competition this season.
He has 105 goals in this competition, which only places him behind the iconic duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Leading the Barcelona attack, this season he has eight goals and will be looking to grab some more in this match.
Lamine Yamal will be another top player to watch in the Barca attack. The Spaniard got his 12th and 13th goal contributions in the 4-0 win over Athletic. He has two goals from the opening four Champions League games.
