by Daniel Ngulu in Scottish Premiership Predictions
Celtic will welcome fellow Scottish Premiership title hopefuls and Old Firm rivals Rangers in a tantalizing league fixture this weekend. After 19 rounds, Celtic are placed second while Rangers are third going into this encounter. We have a prediction for the match below.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two giants, but the second in the league. The first, away to Rangers at the start of the campaign, failed to produce a winner, ending 0-0. As the two biggest teams in Scotland clash, this match is expected to bear more than just the bragging rights.
It will have a significant bearing on the title race in the long run, with Celtic going in trailing leaders Hearts by three points. On 35 points, Rangers are a further three behind. Across the last six meetings between these two, Celtic are winless, with four ending in draws at 90 minutes.

Celtic - Rangers: Form Analysis
Celtic missed a big chance to move joint top after a shock 2-0 loss away to Motherwell in midweek. Granted, the Hoops had stuttered in recent outings and weren’t at their most formidable as they travelled to Tynecastle. They, however, went into the game having won two in a row and hadn’t lost to the Steelmen in 10 years.
The result left them three points off the pace with 38 points. Celtic have won 12 games, the same as leaders Hearts. With three league games in the space of 11 days ahead, the Bhoys will be eager to offer a response and go on a run. A derby victory might just be what the doctor ordered.
Celtic have been pegged back by five league defeats so far.
Rangers are hot on the heels of their eternal rivals. They are further back in the title race and cannot afford to lose in this six-pointer. Danny Rohl’s men have accumulated 35 points, and a loss here could see them drop to fourth. The Gers are coming into this match in slightly better form than their hosts.
Rangers have won three of their last four games and are on a two-match winning run. The visitors followed up a 1-0 victory over Motherwell with a 2-1 success against St. Mirren in midweek. Rangers haven’t lost any of the last four league meetings with Celtic.

Celtic & Rangers Squad Analysis
Celtic will once again be without long-term absentees Callum Osmand, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Alistair Johnston. There is, however, a big possibility that Jota, who has been out since April, will be available for the game.
The forward has scored four times in the Old Firm derby and will be a major boost for a struggling Celtic side if he returns. Benjamin Nygren has scored eight times in the league and netted a brace two matchdays ago. With Daizen Maeda, scorer of six goals, the two will be the hosts’ main threats on Saturday.
Celtic seem to have the attacking edge but will be tested defensively.
Thelo Aasgaard has scored in each of Rangers’ last two matches. Now with three goals in the league, the Norwegian midfielder is one of Rangers’ key players. He was sent off in the most recent Old Firm derby and should be out to prove something.
Youssef Chermiti looks to add to his four goal contributions and is another player the hosts have to plan for. Dereck Cornelius and Oliver Antman are still out injured but are expected to return later in January.

Our Celtic vs Rangers Prediction
Our prediction for Celtic v Rangers is BTTS. This is the most sought-after fixture in Scotland, and a fiery encounter should ensue, especially with the teams in the title race. Both sides are strong in attack and rarely fail to find the back of the net.
With a combined 60 league goals between them after just 19 rounds of play, seeing both teams get on the scoresheet here is very likely. It is also worth remembering that Celtic have struggled defensively ever since a recent coaching change, while Rangers have been porous away from home.
