Wild card Jodie Burrage faces Caty McNally in the Wimbledon Championships first round. A tough second round match awaits the winner especially if eighth-seed Iga Swiatek beats Polina Kudermetova. Here's our match prediction.

Burrage is probably still kicking herself after what happened in Eastbourne last week. Three match points were lost against Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova and the Brit lost in a third-set tie-break. A repeat of the form shown for most of that match should see her win this match.

The 26-year-old is 164th in the live rankings and has won two of her six grass court matches played this year. A win here will take Burrage into round two at Wimbledon for the second time, the other in 2023.

Two years ago, these players also met in round one at Wimbledon with Burrage getting the victory. Caty McNally has been struggling with injuries of late and needed elbow surgery in 2024.

Only one grass court match has been played by her this year, a loss to Victoria Azarenka in Bad Homburg last week. McNally is now 208th in the live rankings but got into the main draw on her protected ranking. Her best form has been seen in doubles matches and on clay.
