Casper Ruud - Stefanos Tsitsipas: Form Analysis
Stefanos Tsitsipas began the clay court season in mixed form. He hasn't had too successful a time on hard courts this year and had slipped down to 12th in the world rankings. Playing in Monte Carlo means so much to him though as it's where he lives. He won the title here in 2021 and 2022 and now he has the chance of winning this Masters 1000 tournament for a third time. Reaching this final has seen him rise to ninth in the live list and winning this title will take him to seventh. The Greek player had to play from the first round of this tournament and his first four matches were won without dropping a set. That included a win over the fifth seed Alexander Zverev in round three. He also beat the 15th seeded Karen Khachanov in the last eight. He finally dropped a set in the last four losing the middle one against second seeded Jannik Sinner. That win saw him become only the second player this year to get a win over Sinner.
Casper Ruud had never beaten Novak Djokovic in five previous meetings. He hadn't even won a set off the world number one. That all changed on Saturday as he beat the top seed in three sets. The first set was won but then Ruud only won one game in the second. He pulled himself together and won the final set 6-4. This is his first final in Monte Carlo, his previous best being a last four appearance in 2021. Ruud began this tournament in round two and kicked off his campaign with a couple of straight sets wins. The last eight saw three sets needed to beat Ugo Humbert, then came another final set decider against Djokovic. He is level 2-2 with Tsitsipas in previous meetings and beat him in the recent Los Cabos hard court tournament. On clay courts they are 1-1 but they've only had that Los Cabos match in the past three years. Tsitsipas is in top form and we tip him to win this title.
