The first meeting between Casper Ruud and Daniil Medvedev since 2021 will be at the quarter-final level at the Madrid Masters. This marks the fourth meeting in their careers, and the winner will take on Francisco Cerundolo or Jakub Mensik. Read on for our prediction.

Ruud is having an underwhelming season for a player who excels on clay. While he has compiled an 18-6 record so far, he is yet to win a title this year.

He was dethroned in Barcelona last week and could only reach the third round in Monte Carlo. However, coming from a fourth-round win against Taylor Fritz, he will be confident of overcoming Medvedev. 

Medvedev has had an easy pass to the quarters. His opponent in the second round withdrew, so the Russian has had to play only two rounds.

In the most recent, he needed three sets to overcome Brandon Nakashima. In recent matches he has avoided the expected meltdowns on the court, managing to push his record to 16-8.

The Russian is also a decent player on clay, and his last title was at the Masters level on clay. That, however, came two years ago. In five clay court matches this year, he has four wins.

After Indian Wells, this is the first time Medvedev has lasted more than three rounds at a tour event this season.
