Defending champion Andrey Rublev has the ultimate test in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open semi-finals. The fifth seed takes on top seeded Carlos Alcaraz for a place in the final. Here’s our match prediction.
Andrey Rublev is playing in his second semi-final of the year. The Russian has an excellent record in this outdoor hard court tournament in Doha and was also champion in 2020. This week has seen the 28-year-old defeat Jesper de Jong, Fabian Marozsan and Stefanos Tsitsipas all in straight sets.
Rublev is 18th in the live rankings. He has lost four of his previous five matches against Alcaraz. His only win came in 2024 on clay. Of their five matches, only one was played on this surface. That was in Cincinnati last year.
Carlos Alcaraz is playing in his first semi-final in Doha. The world number began his campaign with straight sets victories over Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Royer. He had to work harder on Thursday as the Spaniard came from a set down to beat Karen Khachanov.
Alcaraz has won all ten of his matches (all on this surface) in 2026. He hasn’t lost an outdoor hard court match since March of last year.
