Will it be seventh time lucky for Brandon Nakashima? He's played in six quarter finals this year but is yet to reach a last four. The fifth seed faces unseeded Daniel Elahi Galan in the San Diego Open quarter finals. The winner of this match takes on either second seeded Jenson Brooksby or unseeded Chris O'Connell in the semi-finals. Nakashima is the world number 69 but up to 64 in the live rankings. A win over Galan will take him back into the top 60. He's recently made the last eight in both Atlanta and Los Cabos and is again battling to get into his first semi-final since last year's Next Gen Finals. This week has seen him beat Zachary Svajda and Denis Kudla, both in straight sets.

His opponent was ranked 75th in the world before the start of this tournament and that was a career high. His run to this quarter final has seen him rise seven places in the live rankings. The Colombian will be out for revenge here as he lost to Nakashima in the last 32 at Wimbledon, winning only nine games in the three sets defeat. He has been playing on both the Challenger Tour and ATP Tour this year. Recently, he made it to the last 32 of the US Open and the last four of a Challenger Tour held in the Dominican Republic.  Galan knocked out the fourth seeded Pedro Martinez in the last round. Nakashima is on a good run at present and his consistency can see him beat Galan.
