Bianca Andreescu will take on world number 89 Greet Minnen in the first round of the WTA Osaka. This match will mark their second meeting and we have a prediction.

Andreescu makes her tour return after almost two months out of competitive action. The Canadian made her season debut at the French Open to end a nine-month layoff and so far has played just 17 matches.

Of the 17, she won nine and has been able to record a tour final appearance. Andreescu was runner-up in Hertogenbosch, a feat that ended her two-year wait for a tour final appearance.

The 24-year-old won against Minnen three years ago at Flushing Meadows. A similar result will halt her current four-match skid. The former world number four is currently placed 162nd in the live ranking.

Greet Minnen is also looking to get back to winning ways. The Belgian lost her last two fixtures, the most recent being in the qualifying rounds in Wuhan, highlighting her inconsistent year.

Alternating between the tour and challenger circuits, Minnen has lost 30 matches, five more than her wins. Most of her victories (17) have been registered on hard courts but so too have most of her losses.

Despite this inconsistency, the 27-year-old will be confident of a win here. She is a strong hardcourt player, with over 130 wins on the surface.

Minnen’s best tour performance so far this year was in Hertogenbosch where she made the quarter-finals. She is currently down to 94th in the live ranking after falling five places.

The winner here will advance to play Diane Parry or Erika Andreeva for a place in the quarter-finals.
