Unseeded Fabian Marozsan bids to cause another shock in the Cincinnati Masters. He takes on the 12th seed Ben Shelton in the last 16 of this outdoor hard court tournament. Can he win again? Here’s our match prediction.
The Hungarian had been struggling for form ahead of this hard court tournament. He had lost three matches in a row, two of them after winning the first set. Only one of those losses was on this surface as he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta (also going well this week) in Montreal.
Marozsan beat qualifier Corentin Moutet in straight sets in round one. He ran into problems on Thursday when dropping the first set to eighth seed Grigor Dimitrov. Marozsan battled back well and won the next two sets for the loss of seven games.
He’s up to 49th in the live rankings.and is a place higher than that in the ATP Race. He's had two previous matches against Shelton and lost them both in straight sets. One was played on a hard court and that was in Auckland this year.
Ben Shelton is at a career high 14th in the rankings but up a place as a result of making it to the third round in Cincinnati. The American beat Reilly Opelka in straight sets in round one with both of them being decided by a tie-break.
He had to go to three sets in the second round as he defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Shelton had to come from behind to win that match and again the first two sets went to a tie-break. This year has seen hm reach three hard court semi-finals and one other quarter-final.
This could well be a close match and our suggested bet is for over 0.5 tie-breaks to be played.
