A rebranding Barcelona will be up against Monaco in the last of their preseason activities on Monday before resuming La Liga action. The two sides will be battling for the off-season Trofeo Jan Gamper and here’s our preview and prediction of the match.
As the Camp Nou is still under renovation, Barcelona will host this game at Estadi Olimpic Lluis. They won 15 of their 19 La Liga games there last season and will be confident of a winning return. The Catalans have had a good run in preseason, winning two and drawing as many.
The most recent of them was a 2-2 draw with AC Milan. While they look to finish their off-season on a high, Barca will also be gunning for their third straight win against Monaco. These two sides faced off twice before, in the 1993/94 season Champions League, with Barcelona winning both legs.
Monaco, like Barcelona, also played catch-up in their league last season, finishing second to PSG. They secured a return to the Champions League and will hereby be looking to prepare adequately to challenge for the league title.
In that respect, this match offers good training. This will also be the French side’s final preseason game before they embark on Ligue 1 action. They’ve already played seven friendly matches but managed just two wins.
Their latest outing ended in a 2-1 loss to Genoa, stopping a run of back-to-back wins. On a more positive note though, Monaco have done well in attack in these friendly games, failing to score just once. In four of them, they scored two or more goals, extending their good form in attack from last season.

Our Barcelona vs Monaco Prediction
Barcelona are looking to complete their preseason activities undefeated before they set out to mount a title challenge in La Liga. They’ve been superb in attack in their friendly matches so far and will want to give home fans a spectacle before competitive action resumes.
Meanwhile, Monaco’s biggest weapon heading to Spain is their attack. They’ve rarely gone without scoring in their friendly matches and will be eyeing the same here. As both sides have been good going forward, our prediction for Barcelona v Monaco is for the game to have over 2.5 goals and both teams to score.
