Germany are through to the finals of the Women’s Nations League but will travel to Austria for the last Group A1 game. All is settled in this group, with Austria assured of a third-placed finish. Read on for our prediction of this match.
Austria’s campaign had the best possible start, with a 1-0 home win over Scotland. They would then struggle to keep up, as they suffered three straight defeats. The first of those was against Germany.
Austria, however, recovered in their last game, beating Scotland 1-0 away from home. Now they are only awaiting an opponent for their relegation playoff, as they can’t finish higher than third.
For the second time in as many Nations League editions, Germany will be playing in the finals. This time they will hope to do better than their third-placed finish last year.
After a shaky opening this term, when they played to a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, Germany went on a four-game winning run. The latest of them was a 4-0 rout of the Dutch in Bremen.
While the Germans have stuttered defensively, their attack is so far the most potent. They’ve scored 20 times in the five matches. In three of their last five matches, both teams scored.
