It's the second week of January and Villa still have only eight league points. They are seven points adrift at the bottom and 11 off safety, virtually 12 because of their appalling goal difference. No wonder their fans were angry after the 1-1 draw at League Two Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday. Fans were chanting "You don't know what you're doing" at manager Remi Garde who still hasn't managed his team to a win since taking over at the start of November. They certainly look a team that are already relegated but a win here could start an amazing comeback. Is that likely though when they can't even beat Wycombe? Villa haven't won at home in the Premier League this season and I don't think that's a record that is going to be broken here. Crystal Palace are seventh in the Premier League just a point off a place in the top six. They won away at Southampton in the FA Cup at the weekend and that was a welcome relief after a run of three games without a win which included a 3-0 home defeat by resurgent Chelsea. Their away form is strong though with three wins and two draws in their last five away league and cup games. One factor that is definitely in Palace's favour is confidence. They have some but do Villa especially now their fans are turning on them? I go for a Palace win here to heap yet more misery on Villa and their suffering supporters.
