by Ian John in Carabao Cup Predictions
Villa Park will see an all-Premier League Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie on Wednesday. Hosts Aston Villa will take on Crystal Palace for a spot in the quarterfinals. Will our prediction back the Villains to be in the hat for the next round, or can the Eagles swoop in and secure a stunning victory in the match to progress instead?
Currently lying fourth in the Premier League table, Unai Emery’s Villa have gone on a fantastic run of eleven unbeaten matches. That includes some key cup wins, although they will have been a little disappointed by their 1-1 home draw with Bournemouth at the weekend ahead of this fixture.
In contrast, Eagles boss Oliver Glasner will be delighted with his team’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s third goal of the season giving Palace the win that lifted them out of the relegation zone and into 17th place in the table. That win should give the Palace team a real boost in confidence heading into this very difficult Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie.

Aston Villa - Crystal Palace: Form Analysis
A run of eleven games unbeaten sees Aston Villa supremely confident heading into this match with Palace. However, Villa boss Unai Emery will be aware that his team has drawn both their last two Premier League games on home soil, 0-0 with Manchester United and then 1-1 with Bournemouth at the weekend.
Turning those draws into wins will be his main aim in this match.
The Villains reached this stage of the competition thanks to a Third Round 2-1 win away to League One Wycombe Wanderers. Emi Buendia and Jhon Duran scored the key goals in that game.
They also boast good recent home form against Palace, not losing to the Eagles in any of the last seven matches they have faced them at Villa Park.
Crystal Palace earned a first Premier League win of the season at the weekend; a 1-0 win over Spurs, which was enough to move them out of the drop zone. Their form in the Carabao Cup however has been pretty good so far.
The Eagles defeated Norwich 4-0 in the second round of the competition at Selhurst Park and then in the Third Round, edged out London rivals QPR 2-1 away from home.
Palace have never reached the final of this competition, but Villa have won it on five occasions and been beaten finalists four other times.

Aston Villa & Crystal Palace Squad Analysis
Aston Villa have a clean bill of health for the game with Crystal Palace and Jaden Philogene has now served his one-match suspension meaning the manager has a full-strength squad to pick from.
However, expect Villa to rest a number of stars for this game, as well as giving opportunity to fringe and players returning from injury.
Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara could both feature after lengthy injuries.
Philogene could also start, as could Ross Barkley, with the ex-Everton man likely to replace another former Blue in the shape of Amadou Onana. Jacob Ramsey, Emi Buendia, Ian Maatsen and the exciting Jhon Duran are also all in line for a feature role against the Eagles.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has more pressing injury concerns. Chadi Riad, Chris Richards, Matheus Franca and Chieck Doucoure are out and Ismaila Sarr and Jefferson Lerma are doubts after limping out of the weekend win over Tottenham.
Daichi Kamada and Will Hughes will likely get a chance in place of the two injured against Spurs. Manager Oliver Glasner tends to play close to his full-strength team for Carabao Cup games and it is unlikely that he will change that approach given the difficulty of this trip to Birmingham.

Our Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace Prediction
Our prediction for the Aston Villa vs. Crystal Palace Carabao Cup Round of 16 tie is: Aston Villa to win.
Crystal Palace may have racked up a first win against Premier League opposition at the weekend, but traveling to Villa Park to claim a win is a huge task. Villa are in exceptional form at the moment, unbeaten in their last eleven games and having landed some big wins in cup competitions of late. Provided Villa don't rest too many key players, they should have enough to win this game.
