World number one Ashleigh Barty takes on Petra Kvitova in the semi-final of this WTA tournament in Dubai. Barty has won one tournament this year but was unable to follow up her Adelaide International win with triumph in the Australian Open. Barty lost in the semi-final of that Grand Slam losing in straight sets to Sofia Kenin, This week has seen the Australian beat Laura Siegemund in straight sets and then get a bye after 14th seed Elena Rybakina pulled out of their third round tie. The quarter final saw her have a tough three-setter against Australian Open finalist Garbene Muguruza. Barty dropped the middle set on a tie-break but won the other two for the loss of just three games.

Petra Kvitova is the eighth seed and has had a much tougher route to the last four than her opponent. Kvitova lost the first set of her second round match against Carla Suarez Navarro but only dropped three games in the next two sets. Another three setter followed against Jelena Ostapenka (the middle set was lost) and in the quarter finals, Kvitova beat wild card Ons Jabeur in straight sets but both went to a tie-break. The two players are level after eight career meetings but Barty has won the last three. She can make it four in a row with a win here.
