Ashleigh Barty is the eighth seed for the women's singles but she's the highest one left in the tournament. The only other seed left is Johanna Konta who faces unseeded Marketa Vondrousova in the other semi-final. None of the four remaining players have ever made it to a Grand Slam final let alone win one. Barty had never previously made it past the second round in this tournament and only in the Australian Open held earlier this year, has she reached a Grand Slam quarter-final. On clay, Barty reached the quarter finals in Madrid but lost in the last 16 in Rome. So far in this tournament, the Australian didn't drop a set in the first three rounds but then had to come from a set down to beat Sofia Anna Kenin who had beaten Serena Williams in the previous round. The only seed she has beaten is Madison Keys (14) who she defeated in straight sets in the quarter finals.

Amanda Anisimova is ranked 51st in the world and this is only the second time she has made it past the first round of a Grand Slam tournament. The 17-year-old's previous best performance was a run to the fourth round of this year's Australian Open where she beat Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the last 16 where she lost in straight sets to Petra Kvitova. She had a disappointing run of form following that tournament but then won a clay court tournament in Colombia, though none of the opponents she beat are ranked in the top 100. Anisimova took world number four Kiki Bertens to three sets in Rome giving her a confidence boost as she headed to Paris. The second round saw her get another win over Sabalenka as she defeated the 11th seed losing just six games. The quarter finals saw Anisimova beat third-seeded Simona Halep in straight sets and she's in the form of her short life. Go for her to create another upset with a win over Barty.
