Anna Schmiedlova faces Anastasija Sevastova in the quarterfinals of the ATX Open in Austin with a place in the semi final against either Yue Yuan or Yafan Wang for the winner. Slovakian Schmiedlova has come through two tough three-set games to reach the quarters. Facing the Slovakian star will be veteran Anastasija Sevastova who after almost two years of inactivity in 2022 and 2023, is now ranked 485, but that is sure to change after reaching the quarterfinals in four tournaments in a row, including this one. She now has a chance to go one better than that against an opponent she has played four times previously, winning all four matches, two on hard courts, one on indoor hard courts and one on clay. Sevastova has rolled back the years in Austin and has produced two exceptional performances in her two previous matches. She defeated Argentinean Julie Riera 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and then faced second seed Sloane Stephens in the second, where she produced outstanding tennis to land a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets win. Her performances in Austin have seen her move up to 382 in the Live Rankings and she will climb higher if she wins this quarterfinal tie.
