Yet to play past the quarter-finals at an event, Blinkova has been lacklustre on hardcourts, winning half of her 16 matches. She is currently placed 79th in the live ranking.
Kimberly Birrell arrives for her Cincinnati debut in extremely poor form. The Australian has lost four consecutive fixtures, and only three times has she won in her last nine outings.
Birrell was defeated in the first round in Montreal in her most recent match by teen sensation Victoria Mboko. Alternating between the tour and ITF circuit, the 27-year-old has compiled a 28-19 record with 18 of her wins coming on hardcourts.
Birrell, who won an ITF title in Brisbane back in February, has fallen in the first round seven times in 14 tour events this season. She starts her run in Cincinnati, having dropped to 83rd in the live ranking.
