Zeynep Sonmez will be looking to continue with a strong head-to-head record against 26th seed Ann Li when they square off at Wimbledon. Their second meeting of the season will take place in the first round. Sonmez, with two straight wins against Li, is the pick to win in our prediction.

Li arrives at the All England Club devoid of consistency. The American has lost four times in her last seven outings and is on a two-match skid. Both losses have been on grass.

After starting the grass season with a quarter-final finish in Nottingham, Li was ousted in the first round in Bad Homburg in her next event. Li, who lost in the second round in her main draw Wimbledon return last year after two seasons, is the world number 29.

Sonmez has won both times she was paired up against Li. A dominant 2-0 victory in their first meeting saw her lift the Merida Open two seasons ago.

Their next showdown, back in February at the same event, wasn’t almost as one-sided as the first, as the Turkish star won 2-1. With her strong run on grass, Sonmez will be confident of a third win over Li.

The 24-year-old has compiled an 8-3 record on grass. She is coming off a quarter-final finish in Eastbourne as a qualifier, which has moved her up to 52nd in the live ranking.
