Seventh seeded Jannik Sinner takes on unseeded Andy Murray in the last 16 of the National Bank Open. Whoever wins this outdoor hard court match will face either Gael Monfils or lucky loser Aleksandar Vukic in the quarter finals. Sinner is a career high eighth in the rankings but there's a big gap between him and seventh placed Andrey Rublev who lost in the last 32. The Italian is sixth in the ATP Live Race and winning this match will take him up to fifth. Sinner has had a busy year and a win here will be his 39th on the ATP Tour in 2023. This Toronto event is his first since getting to the last four at Wimbledon. A win here will make it four successive tournaments in which he has reached at least the last eight. He's had success on several surfaces this year and on hard courts won the title in Montpellier and lost in the final in both Rotterdam and Miami. The 21-year-old has had just one match this week. That was a straight sets win over Matteo Berrettini.

World number Andy Murray is up to 36th in the live rankings and beating Sonego will see him rise another three places. With Cincinnati still to come, he could yet get back into the top 32 and be seeded at the upcoming US Open. That's his main target at possible and would prevent him facing another seed until at least the last 32. Murray beat Lorenzo Sonego in the first round but then had to go to three sets to defeat qualifier Max Purcell in round two. That match saw 34 games being played and lasted just less than three hours. He's 1-1 in previous meetings with Sinner, the most recent seeing the Italian win in Dubai last year. Both matches wer played on hard courts. A close match is possible here but we go for Sinner to get the win.
